In this guide we are going to go through how to use your mobile phone to capture, create and generate 3D content using an application called Reality Scan which is owned by Epic Games and can have a direct workflow ecosystem for those who also want to work with the Unreal Engine. Reality Scan uses your devices camera and if you have an iPhone with LIDAR functionality can also leverage that alongside gyroscopes to capture a series of images or a video clip to try and recreate an object or space looking for identifiable features, relative distances from each other and so on. It is important to note that as it relies on the devices camera functionality the better the devices camera and the more well lit the space and identifiable the surfaces are the better the 3D scan capture will be.

As with all current Photogrammetry tools (not those that leverage Neural Rendering fields) it can struggle with reflective or transparent surfaces as the stitching software can struggle to identify features and distances.

RealityScan is free and includes for new account users 1 year of Sketchfab pro for free for sharing and downloading as many models as you can within monthly limits of the plan.
